These hard-working folks have already invested a staggering amount of work into rescuing this chateau. Simply staggering; it's Remarkable. Any empty building is seriously endangered . Abandoned buildings are at even greater risk, and historic and architecturally significant buildings that have been abandoned are lost by the hundreds every year. HOWEVER, when saving an historic building, it is important to respect the architecture and history that made it important in the first place, and worth preserving. This means that you do not demolish the complete interior. Otherwise, these folks could just have easily saved a stone barn, which would have allowed them complete freedom to do as they pleased. France, and in fact all of Europe and the United Kingdom are stuffed with abandoned farm buildings that are worth preserving, and need rescuers immediately. This is a real crisis. They will be lost soon. The complete destruction of all ceiling and wall plaster in this chateau means the loss of virtually all of the historic interiors. Demolition of original interior walls does even more damage. At one point, this film recorded the destruction of ornamental plaster cornices, lost long with the ceiling and wall plaster. The family for whom this chateau was built were very, very proud of those plaster walls and ceilings. They required the work of master craftsman, honored members of an ancient guild, who had trained much of their lives to create them. In addition, they were assisted in their work with apprentices. The complete loss of those interior finishes was very sad. Even if they plan to cover the stonework to recreate the original look of these interiors, it will be in plasterboard, not real plaster, as real plaster will be beyond their financial means. And what about the ornamental cornices? Did they record their profiles so they may be reproduced? Obviously this is just a fragment of the monumental work these well-intentioned folks have put into saving this chateau, but I hope they do not leave the floor timbers exposed - they are nothing special. They were cut with a pit saw, judging from the saw scars - thin vertical cuts along the faces of the beams. This indicates that one man stood above another in a pit, with the wood to be cut over the hole. Each man held one end of a very long saw, with the poor guy in the pit under all the sawdust, bark and dirt. But these timbers are found in many buildings completed before the introduction of powered saws. They were not smoothed by hand using hand tools; there is nothing remarkable about them. The new cinder block walls are bizarre, as they seem to crowd the huge fireplace, and positioned to create a modern interior. Now, they are the owners, and dependent of the historic designation requirements, they can do as they please. HOWEVER, the growing tragedy of this attitude, however, is that thousands - no exaggeration - of historic buildings are being neutered with newly fashionable modern interiors replacing their historic originals. Preserving a single mantelpiece in an otherwise modern room is like placing the head of a fondly remembered family member on the wall, and pretending they are still alive - it is treating historic details like hunting trophy heads. It is our duty to preserve these buildings as intact as possible. This family will own this chateau for what, a dozen years? Even 50 years? It has stood for centuries, and it should survive their ownership intact.

I have so enjoyed watching your progress! I have a curious question: In the States, in Master bathrooms, there would always also be a toilet. Is this different in France or do you have a separate toilet elsewhere?

La chambre est magnifique, tout comme la salle de bain. Ce qui me frappe, c'est l'armoire blanche : je l'aurais faite comme le revêtement mural ou la porte. Donc c'est pas beau... en tout cas, félicitations pour votre travail.

En voyant le chapitre " chasse au trésor ", je me demande si vous avez pensé à la recherche de souvenirs du passé à l'aide de détecteurs de métaux. Je suis persuadé que des associations existent dans votre région qui pourraient vous aider dans cette démarche. Si j'habitais plus près, ce serait un plaisir de le faire bénévolement. Quitte a acheté une minipelle autant mettre le prix direct et prendre une bonne occase de marque connue en france ...moin de problèmes par la suite ... yanmar par ex ou cat ou kubota sur du matériels... apres les chinois le dise vous en avez pour votre argent...moi je kiffe tous se genre de matériel...et pour une rénovation ou aménagements espaces vert rien de mieux quune minipelle

Sur Magnifique! I love the both of you because of the vision you had and were able to bring this castle-home to the height of design respecting the styling of the 18th century. I am impressed and so happy I was able to find you video on RUclips. So Often I pass on watching the resteration of homes that are this old, as i find they do no justice to the home & end up with a home that laks the true replication of the origional design. Also few really finish there home with furniture in keeping with the origional interior design. One room all in grey is beautiful, the only issue I had was the modern hanging light fixture hanging down seems cold. I pray you have a long life and love each other all of that time. What you did with all the work you did and still keep your marrage together, you should be very proud of what you accomplished. Your work hit me deeply in the finishing of your home as I have always have such a passion for French period furniture and design of that antiquity. Congratulations to the both of you, now make some beautiful baby's which will be the icing on the cake. If I had another life time I would do as you have done. Im tallanted in restoring the four homes I purchased trough the years and took a poorly maintained home with great bones. Also I felt by my passion for good esthetics, It seemed all the other neighbors were inspired to make efforts bringing their homes & improve them. With this every neighberhood i lived in became in time the place everyone desired to live in. This resulted was trippling the value of all the homes I restored. The green color of the trumeau is very possibly only 140 years of dirt on a white (or at least pale) paint surface. That's very often the case with old painted boiserie and furniture. Try rubbing a small bit of the surface with a wet paper towel and see what happens.

Nous avons une maison de 1842 que nous avons rénové, nous avons presque tout changé à l'intérieur car humidité est pourriture, certe elle n'est pas classé mais si on nous avait dit de garder l'existant nous ne l'aurions pas fait alors n'écoutez pas ces mauvaises langues car ce ne sont pas eux qui vivront chez vous .C'est vous qui respirez dedans et vous pensez bien même très bien avec tous ces bons matériaux. Je vous admire et je termine de vite nettoyer la cuisine pour aller regarder vos vidéos. Bonne continuation.
